Transforming Safety: Pioneering a new way for CIP
CIP systems are crucial for safely handling food and beverages, preventing product contamination. CIP systems typically consist of reagents and water tanks, valves and pipes. But what happens when the CIP tanks are contaminated? This was after noticing the CIP tanks developed scaling and realizing the risks involved.
This project was done at Tanzania Breweries Limited in Arusha. Initializing with the project realization, The engineering team immediately started identifying the issues and the root causes. They noted the scaling affecting the level sensors in the reagent and water tanks. The maintenance team would schedule manual cleaning of the sensors. To do this, they had to drain the tanks, leading to water and reagent loss. They needed a better method. Engineering got together and came up with a solution. They developed a flow chart and process flow for the cleaning process that would utilize the current valves, pumps and PLC control system. Now they needed a party to realize it.
The project focused on creating an advanced Clean-In-Place (CIP) Tank system, automating the cleaning processes for tanks holding caustic, acid, and water. The aim was to heighten operational efficiency while strictly adhering to industry hygiene standards. The team meticulously designed, programmed, rigorously tested, and flawlessly commissioned this innovative system.
Initiating the design phase, TBL experts collaborated to tailor a system specific to the facility’s requirements. By integrating cutting-edge features such as advanced tank configurations, automated cleaning cycles, and precise programming, they ensured comprehensive sanitation.
Moving ahead from the design phase, a highly skilled team of programmers diligently crafted the system’s software. Their objective was to seamlessly integrate automation and control mechanisms, resulting in a user-friendly interface. By utilizing TIA Portal V12 with WinCC Professional, they established a sophisticated yet intuitive control system for effortless CIP Tanks management.
The project reached its successful culmination with comprehensive testing and commissioning of the CIP Tank System. Each phase, meticulously planned and executed, guaranteed the accomplishment of all predetermined objectives.
